INTRODUCTION WEEK – Group Collaboration Project

GROUP COLLABORATION PROJECT

During introduction week, we were sorted into 16 teams and tasked to create a short animation or design a banner for ‘Toody-Threedy’. I was sorted into Team 13 (aka the best team >:3) with Kori, Bailey, Jasmin and Joshua. after introductions, we decided to create a short animation and drew our ideas on a whiteboard (alongside some amazing doodles for team building reasons of course). We decided on an animation of a fairy-tale book opening with the fairy-tale characters turning evil, as we were influenced by the upcoming Halloween season.

We assigned ourselves with roles for theĀ project.

  • Storyboarding and animatics – Me
  • Character Designing – Bailey
  • Book Cover Designing – Kori
  • Background Designing – Joshua
  • 3D Animating and Modelling – Jasmin

On the whiteboard I drew ideas for different storyboards before creating a polished version. I compiled he polished storyboard together to create an animatic to allow us to see roughly how the animation would look.

We originally planned on having the 2D on the cover of the book and 3D on the inside with trees popping up similar to a pop-up book. we decided that it would look more appealing for both the 2D and 3D to be on the pages inside the book as the audience would only see the 2D cover briefly. To add to the eeriness of the book I wanted I to quickly snap shut once the trees began to move, so it feels as if we’ve seen something we shouldn’t have.

Bailey designed the fairy-tale characters and their evil counterparts. The good versions were influenced by classic Disney’s art as well as @Vivziepop’s art style. the evil versions were influenced by Gravity Falls and @Vivziepop’s art style.

Josh designed the backgrounds, using cool colours like blue and green for the fairy-tale background as the colours give off a calm, earthly feel. Warm colours are used for the corrupted version as reds and yellows are commonly associated with danger, the reds make the forest look as if it’s on fire.

Kori sketched the cover’s design before adding line art and colour, we collectively agreed to use red as the colour is often associated with danger. Gold was used as it complimented the red well and gave the cover a more fairy-tale vibe. Kori also illustrated the fairy-tale characters onto the backgrounds.

Jasmin created 3D models of the book and pedestal and animated the book to open and close.
