When it came time to actually create the room/environment for our production we each went over what props we would need to add into the room as we had fully committed to the idea of our room being a home office as opposed to the earlier idea of making it a living room and so we prepared a list of furniture and other basic decorative props we could scatter around the room.
Our list included:
- Lamp
- Desk
- Desk Chair
- Comfy Armchair
- Small Circular Coffee Table
- Tall Bookshelf
- Doors
- Portrait
- Books
- Photo Frames
- Small Desk Lamp
- Coffee Cup
- Coaster
Out of the list the props that I worked on was the desk and the photo frames as everyone else in the group had split the list between them all equally and so the thing I started working on first was the desk which Bailey (Who had originally designed the layout of room and made the list for our group) had created a rough sketch I could use to reference for the type of desk I would be creating for the room.
When I originally looked at this sketch I started going for a much more “teacher’s desk” looking design which had very prominent thick edging around it with the sides and back completely covered however when I “finished” this version I felt that it didn’t look finished and didn’t particularly fit with the look of the other furniture so I took to google to find a desk I could reference from for inspiration as to the shape of our desk.

When I originally googled desks I scrolled through them to see what sort of aesthetic I thought could make a fairly interesting desk while also fitting the look of the furniture that everyone else had already finished modelling.
I did manage to come across an image of a desk I felt would fit the aesthetic of the other furniture as well as being quite interesting in shape and would look fairly interesting enough to look finished compared to the first prototype I had created and so I used that image I had found on google as a reference for the new version of my desk.

When it came to colour I knew that we wanted to have a more mid tone wood colour for our bigger furniture like the bookshelves and when I looked at my desk and chose to colour the top of the desk a darker colour than the bottom just to create a more unique and aesthetic feel to it.
After building the desk and colouring it I then moved onto making the picture frames which was very easy to create as I had created the actual frame for it by using the inset tool on blender then pushing the photo section down to create the frame outline. I remember having some difficultly with being able to rotate the back stand part of the frame although with a lot of finicking and a lot of determination I managed to get the stand to look like it made sense.

I then moved the frames onto the desk as well as made a small holder/decorative piece to put on the top shelf of the desk and that that was what I considered my prop to be finished and so I uploaded for my group members to move it into the official set that Anna had build up for our group to use.

Odhran and I also had a good idea after I had created my establishing shot that our group members could each send in small Easter eggs into the establishing shot that would show pieces of our personal works we had worked on outside of the project and it would help make our environment look more decorated and lived in as a result. For my Easter Egg I would be adding a bust shot of my character Dickie who had been created in the previous semester around Halloween. While Odhran’s Easter Egg would be sprites of his characters Flamore VI and Nathanial which would appear on the monitor screen on our small bookshelf next to the portrait as well as an NES game box for the game the sprites are part of. However neither of these made it into the final animation due to the other members of our group not having enough time to send over their Easter Eggs for me to add into the shot.
