Week 3, Toning the Value

Overview

For week 2 of my animation studio part of the course I was told to create 4 tonal studies of areas for my group’s world for our animation. The group I joined during the second week was Group 9 who’s Idea for a world was one called Bird Spies.

In week 2 the group were discussing key-locations in our world which the birds would interact with within the animation. One of the key-locations we discussed was that there is a huge tree which the birds meet up in, with this information I created 2 of my 4 tonal studies based around this large tree.

I created one tonal study which showed the tree in relation to how close the tree is to landlines which the birds could use to communicate with their headquarters.

The second tonal study I created of the big tree was the entrance into the tree.

The third tonal study I created was of the pond in a nearby park which the ducks in the organisation -which in this world make up an all-birds navy. The ducks use the pond for training members of their team.

The last tonal study I created for this week’s assignment was one which shows off the landlines the birds stand on to communicate long distances using the tags on their legs, for this tonal piece I decided to add 2 birds actually resting atop the wires to show how they would use the wires.

    Final Thoughts

Overall, this week’s assignment was pretty easy to do, while I wasn’t able to use colour to create the background thumbnails, I found it fairly easy to Convey the depth of the pieces using the lightness and darkness of the tones.
