Week 4, Texturing Dice + Cola?

Overview

For week four of my 3D digital literacy part of my course I was told to create a sword of my own design for the assignment as well as texture it after texturing a tin of Coca-Cola and a dice.

For the Coca-Cola and Dice the lecturer gave us pre-made textures to use and pre-built models for us to try texturing in order to let us get used to texturing models using the materials tab in blender paired with the UV layouts of the models to ensure the materials lined up properly with how they are supposed to look on the model.

After texturing the Coke tin and dice we were also given a hammer to texture which reminded me of the Mjolnir hammer when I first saw it, after watching the videos left by my lecturer on how to mark seams on the model and set up the UV Layout in a way that would allow for me to texture the handle differently from the block, tip and band around the handle. To texture each part of the hammer I used photoshop after exporting the UV layout and I then used the new texture image I got from Photoshop in order to add the material to the model.

After completing the hammer texturing, I then moved onto modelling my sword and at first, I was nervous about starting to model the sword as I wasn’t sure how exactly I would begin making it although I just went with my gut, and I was then left with a model which in my opinion looked like a cartoon wooden sword. Taking this idea, I decided to find wooden textures to use for my sword as well as a leather texture to use for the handle; leaving me with this texture layout after unwrapping the UV layout and exporting it to photoshop.

When I added the texture to the sword however it seemed a slight bit flat and boring in my opinion and so after week 5’s class I once again returned to my wooden sword and jumped into substance painter to give it a much more detail in the texturing and using the methods I used in week 5’s blog I managed to come up with something that in my opinion I am proud of.
