New Designs and Selecting Sections

This week was actually very hard for me, I found myself getting quite frustrated.

I had mainly been working by myself on a lot of the designs and so I had gotten quite attached to them at this point and as of week 7 we had gained 6 new members and that meant a lot of new ideas and it got me a little flustered. I can confidently say that I struggle to work in a group but I had did my best to set up enough examples for the new members to base their own designs on. I found myself getting quite burnt out by working so hard alone on things for the first couple weeks.

With that in mind it was nice seeing my group working together with so many ideas and interesting changes happening, the group had set up an online drawing session to sketch and design together, which unfortunately I couldn’t be apart of as I had to type up our plot for everyone to eventually pick our sections from. I had based this plot off of what the original week 1 group was thinking and changing it slightly, no one engaged with this from around week three (when I had made my thumbnail sketches), so I kept the story the same and just typed this up. I’m not the best at creating stories, it does read very cliché unfortunately, but no one seemed to want to change it so it is what we all went for.

With these new designs made from the new larger group I had to go and redo my sketches to fit the groups, I’ve been having a rough time with my art recently so I decided to do a couple explorations and wait for other’s designs or feedback before making any commitments. These will soon be turned into turnarounds and expression sheets before we all start animating so that even with our different styles the consistency of character will help to link them together.

We also went and decided our animation sequence within the group, this was set up by Joyce who split up the typed plot into sections and sorted who picked what for us.

For this we all have our own section where we will talk to the person behind and in front of us to make sure the sections will line up. I decided I wanted to be either first or last for the plot and ended up with the last section. This would mean I get to animate one of my favourite sections of the story and I only have to make sure I match one other person. Now that I know what particular section I am working on, I was able to focus on this and write a quick script-like breakdown of exactly all the action I want in my time. As well as make some rough storyboards with these, the earlier I do this the better the transition can be between me and the person before me. Next week I will time out this to see if my actions take too long, so I can remove some content before starting my animation.
