Games Art Style Research

What is Clean Sci Fi

Science fiction cover a massive spectrum of art style concepts. The one my group pick was a “Clean Sci fi art style”.

This Art style often display a lot of smooth clean white surfaces panels and small random lights. The tool and machines are all sleek, thin and mobile. Everything is smooth, curved designed and well thought out engineering. The colours used often monochrome colour’s pallet.

Researched Games and Movies

We as a group discussed what games we would think would inspire are game and it came down to these 5 main ones that were useful.

  • Portal 2
  • Star trek beyond ships (concept art)
  • Half Life
  • Alien Isolation (2014)
  • Fall out 4

My clean Sci Fic Mood boards

I later made a mood board looking at this inspired games and movies

As a group we also did look into the idea of doing an graphic novel mixed in with clean sci fi but decided to not do so and kept with hand painted strokes into our art style to make it unique, making it stand out and different compared to other clean sci fi art style games.

Artist – Walter Molino

The great Walter Moline, He was a influential Italian illustrator know for his art depictions of terrible disaster and explosions. I piratically liked his 60s Cover illustration of the “The Pedipulator”. I also liked his other sci fi drawing novels style and giving a retro looks style would be good to the group game style

Extra small mention

I personally really like the animation Movie of “Klaus” (2019) and looked at how they made their film and wonder if it could be replicated to the group game project but they making of klaus had too much elements to be replicated to a small group project game.
