Animated Strategies – Week 2, more concept art and ‘blocking out’

This week we were told to try and block out the basic layout of our environments. I found this difficult, as I wasn’t sure exactly what I was going to include where. This was my first couple of attempts at blocking out:

However, after I came home I decided I wanted to try and plan this a little better, as when I began I kept it to one room rather than thinking about distance:

After some playing around, this is what I managed to come up with:

It still looks a little too simple to me, but I think it’s a pretty good starting point to work from. Hopefully.

I did a little rushed modelling for some vials and bottles just for fun:

I also did a bit more concept art this week, to help me with the theme and feel of the environment as well as establish ‘areas’ that I can fill the space with, as I felt that I was a little overwhelmed with space and items when I was working through the blocking out stage in class this week:

Some concept work done for our group, who have chosen to create a ‘science lab’ environment:

Including Pinterest boards:

At this stage, we are imagining a Frankenstein’s monster science lab with a tim burton/little nightmares/ coraline etc. style. We want to keep the style simple and stylised, but creepy.
