In class, the entire class was split into groups of four or five and was given the task to come up with as many ideas of Worlds as possible. My group consisted of four people as we managed to come up with a lot of different ideas. Although we did get carried away with our first idea.
After that the group had to narrow down the list to our top five worlds that we could possibly do work on, and then try to finalise one idea. The idea the group settled upon was a plant world with plant characters and one human character. We weren’t sure what the world actually looked like but we decided to do our own idea first then come together and see what we came up with.
This then led onto the next lesson of composition and perspective, which is really helpful when designing environments and scenery for a world. For the homework we were tasked with analysing three different animated scenes for the composition and perspective, and then designing 12 simple thumbnails of environments.
For the analysing part of the homework, I went back to my favourite cartoon (My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic) and tried to find some good images of 1-point perspective. I did have some trouble in the beginning as I was confused as to how the lines went. However I did clear my head and rethink things as was able to find how the lines needed to go for this perspective.
I then went to another cartoon I enjoyed watching (Totally Spies) and tried to find some 2 or 3-point perspective images. These were a lot harder to figure out as all the lines needed to look right in order for the perspective to be right. It did take my a couple of tries to figure it out but I did manage in the end and the lines and perspective look right.
From studying the images, I then went to create my 12 thumbnails. Some were easier to create than others as I had some ideas when thinking about this world when talking with my group. The feedback I got from these thumbnails was good, however they did say that some of the thumbnails would be better with a lower horizon line. I do agree with this advice as I did think some of them would have been easier if I did the horizon line lower. I am happy with what I have done and I think it is a good starting point to getting better at drawing and designing environments.
