Fine Art – Contextual Research, Bill Woodrow

The sculptor I decided to research for our fine art class is Bill Woodrow.

Woodrow was born near Henley, Oxfordshire in 1948. As well as sculptures, Woodrow also creates prints and drawings. He had his first solo exhibition, “Bill Woodrow: Sculpture” in 1972 in the Whitechapel Art Gallery in London and was apart of his first group exhibition, “Objects & Sculpture” in 1981 in I.C.A in London. In 1986, Woodrow was awarded his first prize, the Finalist Turner Prize at the Tate Gallery in London.

Woodrow’s sculptures, in my opinion, are pretty obscure, seemingly using miscellaneous objects within them. Being a fan of the weird and obscure myself, Woodrow’s sculptures are somewhat interesting to me, even if I’m not totally sure what’s going on in them.
