IXD303 Week 3-Design and Strategy

BHAG

BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goal) is a interesting, long-term goal that is intriguing enough to inspire employees of an organisation to take action. Without huge dream goals to aim for then we tend to lose sign of why you are doing what you’re doing, as well as very easily losing motivation if you don’t aim towards something. Even the largest companies in the world still set BHAGs every year to better their products and to continue to suit the ever increasing needs of the consumer.

The term BHAG comes from the 1994 book “Built to Last: Successful Habits of Visionary Companies” by Jim Collins and Jerry Porras.

Examples of Famous BHAGs

  1. JFK “The moon (and back)’
  2. Microsoft: A computer on every desk in every home (seemed impossible at the time)
  3. SpaceX: Colonising homes

What might this be viewed as?

  1. website
  2. app
  3. social media
  4. AR/VR/MR

Todays ‘Frame your Design Challenge’

  1. What is the problem you’re trying to solve?
  2. Try to frame your problem as a design question
  3. What is the impact you are trying to have?
  4. what are some of the possible solutions to your problem
  5. Write some of the context and constraints you are facing
  6. Once you go through this process, think about if your design needs a tweak and if so how can you improve it?

We are to answer these questions for our own healthcare app ideas so we can think deeper about our own projects.

This was really beneficial to complete when starting a new project as it made us think about what needed to be included in our project and problems that may be faced. As I was aware it would already be a taboo subject to approach, this task really made me consider how I would go about creating this app in the least offensive and triggering way possible.
