Needs Driven Design
when creating a product, it is important to ask yourself:
- Does this need to exist?
- What user needs are you trying to solve with this product?
- What user goals are you hoping to satisfy with this product?
Today’s class also taught us that the earlier you user test the better as if you leave it too late and you discover you have a lot to fix then it turns into a much larger task then if you tested earlier in the first place.
Grand Reveal vs MVP
This really refers to the difference between products that are openly talked about and advertised during production vs the products that are made entirely in secret and then launched with no warning when it is completely ready.
There are many advantages and disadvantages that come with both. if you constantly advertise and talk about a product that you haven’t released yet, whilst this approach could be successful, you also run the risk of people getting bored with the product by the time its out. However releasing a product with no warning may not have the major shock-value hype that you hope and your product could flop due to the lack of promotion. On the other hand, like the iPhone, it could be revolutionary and this approach could make your product more successful than you could imagine.
In class task- GP Websites
our task today in class was to find your local GP healthcare centre and look at their website to see if it contained all the important things that a GP website should contain. EG
- Opening Hours
- Services
- Prescription Orders
- Doctors
- Book an Appointment
My group Practice is Cherry Valley. I had not really taken time to explore their website before so I didn’t know what to expect but was overall pleasantly surprised. Compared to other GP sites, mine was toward the top end as it included all the main aspect it should contain.
Although, there is lots of room for improvement for this site, it is relatively modern and easy to use as everything is clearly labelled which is vital due to the large range of the GP users.
We then compared our sites on the class Miro board and see the difference between the sites.
the main point of this task is to see how important it is to make a ste easy to use for all ages and the importance of keeping your site up to date and making sure the software doesn’t get too old as we saw today there is a huge difference between the two types of sites and the older ones are much less enjoyable to visit and much harder to use.
Competitor Analysis
looking at other healthcare sites like this is a great start for competitive analysis when it comes to creating our own healthcare app/site. it was really eye-opening to see how different companies approaches were and how much more successfully some practices approached this compared to others.
