Week 16

Unfortunately due to the Christmas Holidays and our groups’ current progress, we were awarded a small extension to the project and were given the ability to finish the project using some of the assets from the Epic store. This was also the last week we had been awarded, however over the previous weeks the team had been hard at work fixing up assets, textures, and learning the Unreal Engine.

To finish this project off, I took some of the original roads and deleted them as I felt as though they were beginning to lead to nowhere, and with no proper ground I took some from the “spaceship Interior set” and began using it to fill out the ground… surprisingly after I did this, the rest of the town began to fill itself out.

However whilst on a call with one of my group members she had a feature of her town that I really liked the look of, and She showed me how to make an Emissive colour asset,

After implementing this feature, which involved putting a grate mesh over the top of a glowing asset to give it this glow effect to the streets, I then set about populating the city graffiti and smaller details to bring it to life.

I then took the camera sequencer and began filming the city. After I took some shots of the city and was about to render it, something was off, and the render was only rendering part of the sequence, up to the first cut.

Later I asked my tutor and he showed me what I had done wrong, however, whilst I was on a call with him, I chose to ask him what he felt about the animation so far, and he gave me a few suggestions.

-Populate the world a bit more with assets

-Film a bit more

I managed to tighten up the city a bit more by fixing the back walls and adding more graffiti, as well as trash cans and cans along the ground.

After 2 lengthy tendering processes from Unreal and After effects, I brought the final film into the premiere, I cut up each of the sequences and moved them around slightly to create a better flowing animation, making sure to match the movements of the camera so it wasn’t as jarring.

After that, I added some music to it and exported the final animation.
