With this week, we started with a meeting with the tutors, they had a look over what we had initially accomplished, one of the fixes they suggested was the removal of the initial scene at the beginning, the mob boss scene, which would mean the removal of my office scene that I had been working on, and whilst Initially, I was disheartened, we were all given new jobs to work on, mine would be to make the sun and moon for the long shot of the assassin moving, and also to fully create the previs for the group, so we could all get an idea on how the animation would look.
First off I started with the sun model, so I did the usual, and created a standard ball and upped the subdivisions on it, to make it more smooth, and then I added a flat plane, I didn’t want to make it look too realistic, as the group was going for a slightly cartoony look, so I planned to make flakes of the sun that go round the outside and make it look more cartoony.
I thought I could be a bit smart here, and made the ball a light sphere, to hopefully give the model a more sun look, which would have been a smart idea, however with the sun lakes that I had, the sun cast a harsh shadow onto it, making it look super obvious that there was a disk around the ball, which wasn’t something I was aiming for.
So with the texting of the sun done, I then began the work on the previs scene. I knew a basic Idea of what the scene was going to look like with a log in the middle and I used our group’s drawings to get a feel for the mise-en-scene.
As the scene was only supposed to be low poly, I just used a simple tube for the log and a flat plane for the grass, and using the same technique I used for the snail shell background in the mob boss room, I created two mushroom stalks and attacked them at either end.
I then finally created the stalk, by experimenting with the same wire technique but this time using a tube to create the effect, so i could have it taper off in the end, and with that, the base of the scene was finished.
