IXD303: Week 3 Reflect

Framing your Design Challenge

This week was all about framing our design challenge. This included stating the problem, framing it as a design question, the impact we want to have, solutions and constraints. We are still in the research phase of this project so the idea I went with isn’t set in stone.

My Design Question

“How can we design an effective, user-friendly interface to track the health and wellbeing of endangered animals?”

Table of Questions

I found this very useful as it allowed me to think about the reason why I wanted to design something like this and possible issues I may face along the way. It also allowed me to keep an open mind to different ways I could go about solving this problem.

After doing this task, I was able to tweak my original design question to better suit this topic now that I have a better idea of what is involved.

Updated Design Question

“How can we design an effective user/animal-friendly interface to track the health and wellbeing of endangered animals?”

I added “animal-friendly” to the question due to one of the constraints I uncovered. A lot of the wearable devices that healthcare professionals use look uncomfortable for animals. Therefore, I would consider a more animal-friendly device that is lighter, less noticeable, or something invisible like a microchip.

Once I have a more solid idea, I want to do this again as it works well to give me an overview of the project.
