Week 1 – Form and Shape
To study form and shape, we were tasked with breaking down the underlying form of 3 of our favourite animated characters.
Seto Kaiba
The first character I chose was Seto Kaiba from Yu-Gi-Oh, purely because he’s my favourite. Kaiba has a lot of sharp edges, no curves. Even his hair and the fabric draping off him is sharp. He has a slender figure with elongated arms and legs – he’s proportioned like a Shoujo anime character. The sharp edges reflect his abrasive personality.
Panty Anarchy
The next character I chose was Panty from Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt. I chose her as the style in this show is different to most other anime series, and I enjoyed working with her shapes. Her proportions are exaggerated, her hands and feet larger than her small torso. She is made of of sharp convex and concave lines. There are few rounded edges, with even her fingers being rectangular.
Koichi Zenigata
The final character I chose was Koichi Zenigata from Lupin III, specifically his design from the upcoming Part 6. Zenigata is an extremely rectangular character, I found. Both his head and his torso are rectangular in shape, as well as his long coat. His shoulders are broad, and his limbs are thin in contrast to the rest of his body.
