This week was all about Style Guides & Pattern Libraries. Class was short as there was a group critique session.
Style Guide – The physical or digital document that represents the styles, patterns, practices, and principles of a design system and teaches how to use it. A style guide helps to specify a the logo, colour, typeface etc of a brand and everything in relation to their use.
Pattern Library – An organized set of related, reusable components, often containing code examples, design guidelines, and use cases. Pattern libraries can help keep a brand consistent
Component – A self-contained and reusable pattern that represents a specific piece of interface or functionality
Pattern Library
A Pattern Library ensures a consistent user interface. Essentially a pattern library is a collection of design components that appear multiple times on a site:
- Slideshows.
- Navigation
- Social Media Features
- News Listing
- Related Links
- etc.

Style guides encompass a company’s branding guidelines, including logo usage, designated colour palette, typography etc. Pattern libraries are a detailed subset of the overall style guide

End of Week Review:-
After learning about style guides and pattern library, I feel that I had a better understanding of what they were and the documentation that is also associated with creating a brand. I also found the feedback session very helpful as I was able to get feedback on my brand and know what to change and what to keep the same.
