IXD103 Wk4:- Visual Marque

This week I began to create a visual marque for my brand. I wanted my visual marque to be a way of simplifying my brand in a single image/design.

A visual marque is “a graphic mark, emblem, symbol, or stylized name used to identify a company, organization, product, or brand”

I started off by sketching out some options that I liked and that I thought would suite my personal brand. When doing this I tried to think of ways to draw out the words that I had previously written in my word bank.

I also liked the idea of my logo showing off design in some sort of way or another

After sketching down a few different ideas I then decided to develop the abstract computer idea as I thought it would be an interesting way to show how I am an interaction designer

I then went into Illustrator and began to digitally design my visual marque.

I then had a feedback session in relation to my visual marque. During this session I was told that the laptop didn’t really relate to what I was doing and that it was not the best option for a visual marque. I was also told that a lot of my sketches kind of seemed to relate more to art and fine art but that there was potential with the chain and vector pen sketch. I was also told that maybe I should have a look at a more abstract visual marque.

I then decided to go back to the start and to sketch out some more visual marque ideas that I could use, I decided to try and make my visual marque appear more abstract. I then began drawing out more ideas to see what stood out

I found it hard to think of the perfect visual marque and to capture my brands element in one but I did have a few ideas that I liked.

Afterwards I went onto Illustrator to try and recreate some of my later sketches

Out of my 11 designs I selected three which were my favourite

I had to narrow it down further. I decided to go with the lightbulb idea as I felt that it could signify the flow of ideas that comes with the work of a designer.

I then decided that I would flip the image around and close the gap as I felt that it was unnecessary. I then added my brand colours to it and then I was done.
