Week 9

Animatic Progress

Due to last week being Yuan’s handin for the group’s presentation, I wasn’t able to complete it for Thursday’s class but Sarah was very understanding so I contiuned to work on Yuan’s assignment that day. I was however, able to complete my animatic over the weekend so that was definately a weight off my shoulders.

My Animatic:

I’m very a much a perfectionist so I found that I making the animatic was quite challeging and I could have saved time if I just tried to put less detail and frames as an animatic should only start to map out the animation.

Secondary Actions

I thought a lot about secondary actions and how I want to incorporate them into my animation. Since we’re all animating animals, they have lots of these secondary actions in their movements. As well, Amka’s hair, since she has a braid on the side, everytime she moves the braid would need to move along side her.  As can be seen in my animatic, any time she walks or moves her head, I also added movement to her hair which is a detail that adds more life to her charcter. Then there’s the bear, I really wanted to include the movements of the ears as she lays down indifferent, there wouldn’t be much else movement to her. So when Amka approaches, her ears perk up and eyes widen. The shot before that, whenever the we first see an up close of the bear her ears droop and she does a big sigh. Then when Amka sits down, I decided that I wanted to have the ear closer to Amka rise first as that adds interest and a sence of realism to her charcter. The shot of Amka crying next to the bear also shows not only her tears falling but head tilting down slightly and drawing into herself in a self hug. Her expressions also changes a lot whenever the bear lays down on her as a show of comfort. This leads to her stroking the bear’s head and I’d like to focus on the content/happy body launage of the bear from this action. When it’s the fox’s turn to leave, I want him to nod is head in acceptance, tail moving and then do his jump. And finally, the scene with the Northern lights, I want Amaka to lean on the bears shoulder and actively have the Northern lights move too. As an added bonus, if I have time I’d like to animate Boba swimming up behind them too.
