Cover letter planning

I used a mind map to plan out what I need to include within my cover letter and I also talked about the design I would like too.

Online inspo

I tried online for some ‘design’ inspo for my own cover letter, however I didn’t find a lot of inspo. There was mainly images of plain text on a plain white page, very simple and straight to the point. This is a letter after all that is a written document of text about yourself to a company, it shouldn’t be covered in unnecessary visual noise including illustrations or random shapes etc. I included the comparisons below, maybe something small could incorporate the design well, like below, however I think I might just stick to plain white background but include my brands colours in something link my name or website link for example. I don’t want there to be unnecessary graphic elements in my letter.

What can I take away from this?

I am going to keep it a simple letter format with black text and a white background. but how can I enhance the design without unnecessary designs or shapes etc? Well I need to look at including a great font as well as the layout of the text perhaps I could jazz it up a bit but in a subtle way. I am also considering adding my brand colours in a subtle way, e.g. in page numbers or website url or maybe title font colours. I will update my blog with sketches and digital development.
