Gap year student Interview- Travel app research

I have decided to ask a student I know who travelled the world on her gap year a few questions about her experience and the places she visited. Her name is Jemma Ward and she took a gap year after secondary school and travelled the world for a year before moving onto uni and has an amazing travel blog on instagram link here- Jemma Ward Travel Blog. I thought this interview would be great research and beneficial for the creation of my own travel app, I have included my questions and her answers below.

Question- What was your top favourite country that you visited?

Answer- The top place I visited was the Philippines.

Question- What places did you feel the safest and the most unsafe?

Answer- The safest I would say was Australia as their culture is very similar to the UK and Ireland, just a home away from home. The most unsafe I felt honestly was actually in America!

Answer- The top 3 cheapest countries were:

  1. Bali
  2. Thailand
  3. Philippines

Answer- My 3 recommendations would be:

  2. Bali
  3. Tokyo

Question- What was the most common type of accommodation you used?

Answer- Most common types of accommodations would 100% be hostels hahaha pretty much all we stayed in.

Question-  Which country had a great range of activities, and could you name a few activities you enjoyed participating in?

Answer- Greatest range of activities, gosh I would probably say Australia like scuba diving, surfing, sky diving, bungee jumping etc.

Question- What was the most valuable lesson that you learned from your year of travelling?

Answer- Most valuable lesson would be how short life is and how little things actually matter just get out there, live and see the world we are only here once!

Question- Did you use any travel based apps while travelling, and if so what were your favourites?

Answer- I used hostel world and trip advisor the most.

Question- Finally, would you recommend taking a gap year?

Answer- I 100000% recommend taking a gap year honestly the best decision of my life!

Reflection

I have gained some great knowledge and research into the idea of gap year travel thanks to Jemma and hearing about her experiences; I now have a better idea of what types of places and destinations that I should add into my travel app and which ones I should avoid including. It was great hearing about Jemma’s experience and her opinions and thoughts, it was very beneficial to get information like this from someone who has actual real life experience and I thoroughly enjoyed doing this side project!
