Animated Narratives – Blog and Reflection Summary (Reupload)

Design

Started with a basic sketch draft of the puppet knight. The design would later be implemented by the other member of my group. Whilst working on a separate one.

This is my finalized character sketch.

Unfortunately the puppet model was never fully implemented into the scene due to time constraints and technical issues with rigging. Although the materials of the armour and fabric has been implemented by others.

Reflection

This year has been a rollercoaster for me. Mainly due to the absurd number of absences thus missing out face-to-face class sessions. I’ve been bombarded by several illness especially during last month with temporary ear deafness and a good old 3.5-week long chest infection. Honestly, I’m quite ashamed of my attendance.

However, not everything was orange and lemons. I have learned quite a lot when it comes to animation techniques that wasn’t present from past education. For instance, while I’m still uncomfortable of drawing digital 2D. I had quite a surprising experience relearn and reapplying knowledge from the animation studio class. This lesson would help me learn how to use Krita 2D Digital software, making layers of animation and applying them for keyframing. Didn’t expect the animation to work out smoothly, thanks to watching several tutorials from YouTube.

It was an enjoyable experience of being able to work in groups and contribute, albeit there was some hiatus from me. What I most enjoyed was this terms module for Animated Narratives. Was able to meet members and become accustomed to one another. Thus, communication was never much a problem within the ranks. My most favourite part from this was providing feedback to others while they do the same, thus a little bit of ‘collaborative’ effort authenticity.

My biggest issues to resolves are basically sorting out my attendance and avoid any distractions that leads me to delaying assignments. Furthermore, I never had the chance to properly get familiar to other students within the classroom aside from a couple within the assigned groups. Generally, I just wanted to keep a low profile and avoid attention which can be a problem sometimes.

Overall, I’m grateful to at least experience being able to work, communicate with others and learn new things.
