In the first week of Animation Strategies module we were introduced to the Rain and Snow rigs from blender and the rigs that have been set up on them both to transfer between using IK (Inverse Kinematic) and FK (Forward Kinematic) rigs. Safe to say that this class was a lot of fun as people were creating all sorts of very fun poses and lowkey breaking the models with our amazing urge to see how far we can push things before they break beyond repair…
This class we found out how to switch between both the IK and FK controls in order to get the best from the models we were working with, We also were taught how each of the controls work differently like IK controls work in the opposite way to normal controls, with the child joint leading the other joints. For an example since I’m terrible at explaining things, with IK controls, we can select the hand control and move it forward and up. due to the parenting on it, the arm will also move up as well to follow the hand and the elbow will bend like real life arms would bend! no broken bones this time program. FK controls are somewhat different as instead of like IK where the rig follows the movement, FK can be used to lock the joints in place like a stiff statue, perfect for if you want that pesky hand to stay planted on that desk instead of having your character falling through the desk when they want to get up again, keep that for the Hulk…
