Year 2!! Inductions

Ahhh, how good it is to be back in Uni again. For the induction week at the year’s start, the lecturers decided to give us a very fun and active activity to get us started.

The activity set for us was in our groups, we would each get a set of paper plates (Which were painted with black dots to make eyes) that we were told to run around and stick on everything we saw… Well not exactly EVERYTHING we saw, just things we could make creatures out of but let’s be real for a minute and realise that we, in fact are creative art students and- we did indeed find a way to stick the eyes on everything that didn’t move.

At first, myself and about 9 other students were tragically forgot about by our lecturers and due to this fact we vowed that we would bind together to create the unnumbered group! that was until our lecturers realised we existed again and we were assigned the number 13 as our group number. After receiving our holy grail (Our three paper plate eyes for those of you that don’t feel that insanity that comes with being an artist), we set forth on our adventure to breathe new life into the inanimate objects around our university. No bin was left alone and no arch was left untainted as we used our creative minds to make the master pieces that were our brand new creations- in my opinion we did better than Frankenstein. Just some of our masterful creations are shown below:

As you can see we are quite the masterminds at creating new creatures, however I suppose you can somewhat argue that they aren’t exactly alive… To which I ask you! Where is your imagination? …

Fine you want them to really come to life and move, then the challenge is accepted.

In the group we each chose an image we felt the most drawn to personally and for me, my special companion came from the image of the adorable swirly curl who just stole my heart. At first I tried sculpting him- who I will name “swiggle”- in blender since I thought he would be absolutely adorable as a bouncing happy model in Blender, however I overestimated my attention span and so I was forced to just animate Swiggle in my personal favourite 2d software (Ibis Paint X on my phone) and with a few simple shapes and a solid tracing of his general shape I managed to create a creature that was so absolutely adorable and so lively that he could rival the Pixar Lamp and totally win.

On this day, Thursday the whatever of September, Swiggle was born into this world and no amount of forget me pills will ever erase my little demon from this earth. You’re very welcome.

That’s pretty much all for the induction week… so… uh… That’s all folks?
