Trying my best to keep up on each week’s new lesson, I have started my retopology on my character. With the knowledge from the previous class and videos I’ve looked into, I’m hoping to get this done at least in a few days or the end of this week. Again just like sculpting, this blog post will be mainly images of the process.
For most of the clothing design part, I’m glad I didn’t sculpt any details in as retopology is super easy, the only few details I had to fix was around circler faces where triangles joined in the centre and making them into quads. I haven’t joined most of my different parts yet so making seams would be easier.
I was able to make a ring around a small area on the leg and then a guide by extruding one of the lines, to make sure it was carefully wrapped around, I selected 2-4 edges and extruding them while adjusting them. This was much faster than creating each face by itself so I did the same for the arm. I used a cylinder and removed the end faces before wrapping and extruding.
This is how much I had done on the first day, pretty good as majority of the body pieces was retopologies but they were all simple pieces.
The Next Day
Today, I plan on getting the more swirly parts of the design done or at least most of it. The tail was just using the cylinder near the bottom parts before I started creating faces by hand, the mane like design was more of a struggle as I can’t use a lot of short cuts.
While trying to retopologies this shape, I went through the stages of grief 3 times in an hour. I think/believe I like challenges but this wasn’t a challenge, this was a battle. I saw flashbacks before taking a nap and continuing this, after conversing with classmates and friends. Some had said they’ve spent nearly a week working on retopologising (? is this a verb) while I’ve spent around 2 days so I had some hope of getting this done.
With the few days spent on this, I had finally finished. LET’S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ☻
