Creating Body Mechanic Animations

In this separate blog like my previous walks and runs, it’ll have the same layout with the video reference and then the step by step progress of the animation. This time it might not be as refined as last time but hopefully I can manage my time much better for this half of the module.

WEIGHT LIFT

For my weight lift video reference, I decided to cut out the first part of the walk and start in a few seconds and only the first half of the video from that one camera angle.

This video here demonstrates pretty well how to have the animation laid where we set down the story telling poses and then putting in some of the key poses in between them to allow a smoother flow.

After, I’ve added in a lot more frames and played around with timing to make it believable that the object being lifted is heavy. I did receive feedback on the timing of the character rotating was too slow so I had made the frames much closer to speed it up. From here I did plan on adding on some designs and details…

I may have taken a fat break from doing these animations to complete the other assignment which doesn’t give me much time to add on much detail and clean up a lot of things. Sadly from here onwards, It’s be extremely rough with minor clean ups.

In the end this is my result, I’m still again not very happy with the end result since there is many minor tweaks I could’ve done to put the movements and capture some personality. I would also want to add in some more background stuff such as shelves and all of that. I may revisit this again and redo it on my free time but this was the best I could come up with.

JUMP

I may a little fool and chose something difficult but I just love challenging myself and making everything so much more difficult.

As seen in the beginning I was struggling a little but after setting down the key poses I was able to connect them with the in between and create some smooth movement, again, sadly I have mention this a lot in the weight lift. Trying to find time to do both of these assignments may have dragged down the detail but I’m hoping that I have at least capture the body mechanics in my work.

Around here I tried slapping in some action lines. I wish I was able to add in smear frames but that was something that was briefly looked over in class therefore, to get good I would have to do some of my own studies from videos.

I am just not very happy with the detail in any of my work but I do enjoy understanding how to look at a reference and capture most of the movements. Again there could be extra frames in between the key poses creating smoother actions, tweaking to arm position and fixing minor faults in anatomy.

LIP SYNC

I was out of ideas and this audio was the only thing that tickled the brain. I did record a few references of myself that I am very awkward about sharing here. But here is my process of creating my animation, I may have skipped a lot of sketching which in my opinion took less time for me to animate some of the in between frames.

After working out the composition and movement in my roughs I then wanted to focus mainly on the facial expression and lip sync, below is just me planning out the main shapes down, I also did do this in a more simple style to allow myself to push the expressions as the other style I draw in can be pretty stiff and emotionless.

From there, it was just simple clean up and adding in some details which in this was just hair and eyebrows. I did go back in a few times to fix the mouth positioning which you might not be able to see but just from someone who has been staring at this over and over, somethings just stand out more than others.

I’m actually quite happy with the result of this one compare to the other two, I should’ve done the other two in this style. It’ll also help me get comfortable working in multiple styles rather than just the one. I really had fun in this one and just sharing the process with friends. I sadly didn’t get many feedback on this work so I’m unsure where I can even try and fix.

I was hoping to manage my time better than last time but due to the time this is suppose to be handed in. It got quite busy which made it a little more harder to work with but happily I was able to manage and get this done to hand in. There is a lot of crying about not having enough time in this part. The only thing is just trying to get use to this kind of rush, get better and find ways to work with it. I really enjoy the freedom to find our references and animate them but I may be a little bit of a clown and chose some complicated stuff which took away from a lot of character designs but hopefully I did capture the action being taken. I will definitely revisit this in my free time and do some design on the characters and maybe some simpler stuff before getting carried away. I do like to challenge myself and keep it interesting but the stress wasn’t really worth it.
