Final Touches & Reflection

Unedited Screenshots

Here are the screenshots I’ve taken from my scene through unreal. As someone who did a very simple assignment on photography, my current personal opinion on these are that the tones aren’t very contrasting and that some of the composition work is just very basic.

I’ll just be editing the lighting and contrast, I might spice it up with stylised touches to them. Below are just going to be a large pile of images of settings I’ve played around with and not much text so enjoy ☻

Editing

For these first two, I’m mainly just playing around with some blue effects and hue, saturation and contrast to give it some different colours to try and push some kind of effect that might look interesting. From looking at these images too, I realised that the fourth photo looks a little goofy so I decided to just drop it from my portfolio.

Here I’ve done the same thing but decided to add one some layers to add in highlights and shadows to areas so that they create some type of contrast.

From here I decided to play around with the blur to give it some more depth and push our focus to this little guy.

And this is the final results I came up with, since they were done together I’ll need to go apply these filters and effects onto them separately. The only reason I did them all side by side was to make sure that they looked consistent beside each other.

REFLECTION

I really enjoyed this assignment as it allowed me to have a lot of freedom on the ideas I could explore. I think it’s obvious that I’m still better in the 2D side of this more than 3D, taking comparison from this to my previous 3D work, I can confirm there is a big improvement on my 3D side of work which I’m very happy about and can’t wait to do more of when I get the free time. I’ve gotten so much more comfortable with with Blender and substance alongside learning Unreal Engine which was extremely cool and fun to explore, having a program which allowed me to everything rendered and change around objects really makes it easy to set up an environment.

I really enjoyed the researching side of this too, looking into anatomy on animals and then also how their designs adapt to the surrounding which was interesting since I mainly only focus on human anatomy. Not only researching on designs, looking into how to use the programs efficiently and also how pipeline works gives me a good idea of how work is completed in a more professional work space.

I wish I had spent my time more efficiently on my project more now looking back at it, I seem to struggle with my time management a lot so possibly need to make a check list for future projects. There are also some small elements to my design I wish I had spent more time on making sure it looked better such as the beetle parts but in the end. I think it still came out looking pretty.
