With my completed character model, I will now and try to rig it. Since it’s very simple shape it’ll only requires a few bones, I want to fix try and rig the eyes so I can make it look around, Henry has uploaded a video call damped track which I’ll follow.
DAMPED CONTROLS
I realised the eyes wouldn’t work as well with half circle so I decided to quickly just change them over to sphere, luckily nothing in the UV was affected by this. I just went on ahead applied the damped tracks but then looking back to previous lessons, I think I need to redo this and use the armature to keep everything together.


At least I know how to use the damped controls, now I’ll try following the tilting cube steps. I had tried earlier this week in class to add bones to make it curve which in the end I wasn’t a big fan of.
TILT
Trying to make this tilt restraint was so confusing, my ape brain didn’t understand the steps until I tried it myself. It appeared quite hard but having a go at it, it wasn’t that bad. It was just mainly the overlapping bones. Now I have the basics of the tilt, I’m gonna try adding on the damp control to the eyes before trying to tackle the squash and stretch.






After trying to do the damp controls. things didn’t add up so I have to make it a separately.
SQUASH & STRETCH
It’s the second day of rigging this funny creature, I might not get it done in this day due to going around to Tesco for that meal deal. Have another collection of pictures of the process of making the squash and stretch:



So this driver thing is completely new to me, I have no idea what this is but following the tutorial I got to where I wanted. Right now I want to focus getting this rig done and do some animations to share with my group.

This rig for my character was recommended by beloved Chloë since my character is simple and it’s basically an elongated square from Henry’s tutorial ☻ I wouldn’t have known about this without her. Now with the rigging completed I’ll try creating some test animations to show off my abilities, I’m also sad that my character doesn’t get a lot of screen time for the animated short so here’s gonna be a spam of random animations.
TEST ANIMATIONS
BEFORE I GO INTRO RIGGING I WANTED THE STRAWBERRY ON THE HEAD TO BE SERPERATED BUT FOR SOME REASON I HAVE NO IDEA HOW I DID IT. After messing around with the rig just a bit more the strawberry was not working as I wanted to so I’m just gonna let it be for now and work out the movement.
After giving more animation to the toppings, I think just moving the strawberry around would make the balls less distracting to the overall motion. I’m still unsure about it but I’ll just keep playing around and see where it takes me.
