Blocking A Character [WEEK 8]

We were introduced to the basic shapes that are combined to create the anatomy for a humanoid character. Most of which are create from spheres, some parts could be created through cylinder but again this is all up to personal preferences. Below are just some images me creating half a body. I had went into edit mode to stretch and pull small parts such as the chest and waist, this speeds up the sculpting and that it gives me a general shape I could work with.

I sculpted all these without reference which was an awful idea, as you can see. Some of the proportion don’t match. I also don’t know why there are some dented in parts in the model that create some sort of mark or stretch, unsure what the correct wording is. I was unable to find how to avoid this problem, I just went ahead and did the arms again without reference as it looks very incorrect.

I was done playing around and getting warmed up to the sculpting tools, I went ahead and did a very simple face of what my current character design look like. As most would go for the sphere, I went for the cube and bevelled the edged in edit mode to give it some smoother edges. I dug out the eye holes before using the masking tool to extend the nose. I also added some create for the lips and then sculpted out for the eyebrow area to give it more personality, I was going to make it lightly stick out but since the character design doesn’t have any hair for brows I made it much more agressive.
