In class we had started off to make a skateboard, since I’m still not very confident in the 3D work I followed the tutorials given step by step. Overall, I’d stay it’s more difficult than I thought. I had to restart my skateboard’s board multiple times (mainly because the end parts were always pointy ) in class before heading home to add on the rest of the pieces to the board. Some of the new tools I explored are edit mode to use the tools extrude, insert face and adding bevels.

During the process of making the wheel, it was much more faster and simple as I was less picky about the shape compare to the board. In this I was taught to remove the face if the shape had too many sides and recreating a face through fill that would also divide the shapes to triangles, from there, just dissolving some lines/edges I was able to get a 4 sided polygon.

The process of creating excels to me was pretty tedious, some things didn’t work the way I wanted and had to restart a few times. The main problem I came across in all tries was overlapping on the mirror line or that there’d be a small gap in between also on the mirror lines. I took some shortcuts around these problems and got the same rough results as shown in the tutorial anyway, I went ahead and coloured and added some materialistic feel to the wheel mainly and called it a day. The end result appeared to look like some cheap skate game model, I’m not sure how I feel about this, I went through many stages just to get to this end result and still wasn’t very happy with it, some proportion problems mainly.

With more knowledge about the program and tools, I went ahead to do task 2 which was to create a pull cart for kids. Instead of watching the video and doing each part side by side, this was just to test myself to get more use to the tools and remember what they do since this is one of the best ways I learn. I planned on flicking back to the video is I forget anything but since I took some notes while watching the video, here are some screen shots showing my process of creating the toy.

Personally, I found this much easier to recreate possibly that the starting shape/base was much more easier to alter than the skateboard. It took less time to put the pieces together as I got more use to the shortcuts, I played around with some other small designs to which I didn’t keep most of it as it didn’t look like the simple pull trolley. I also think that I struggled a lot with the skateboard is the symmetry/mirror line as some things would overlap and some would leave gaps while this I wouldn’t have to worry a lot about the small details since it was created without the mirror line.

I’m much more happier with the end result of this compare to the skateboard. Personally it’s because I’ve gotten more confident and possibly that I was doing this in my space so I didn’t have to look around and see if anyone was ahead of me to add on the pressure.
HOMEWORK
In this week’s homework, we had to recreate the tie inceptor from Star Wars. We were supplied with a few videos and a rough referenced of the subject. Again, I took some notes to tackle this by myself and only referring a few times back to the video for help.

The overall model was easy enough to recreate. Some proportion in the recreating may be different different but overall it’s similar enough to tell what the subject is inspired by. After completing the model, I added some colours before going in and animating the piece, for animation I had followed it side by side since we haven’t done a lot of animating in Blender. Some new things I took in are using the circle to create a path for the subject to then be able to move along the ‘track,’ as well, the animation curve to create a smooth loop. I had already known some information about the animation curve on how it can drag on some animation in place and then speed up to move to the next spot.

Here is the finish piece, I haven’t gotten around to do proper light render but just looking at these at this stage is already impressive to me. Below is also the finish animation of the ship:
I didn’t try fixing the way it shaped since it was a struggle but the end result is kind of funny.
