IXD301 – Site Audit (Week One)

In our first class, Kyle gave us a module overview. Our first assignment is to create a portfolio website in order to secure a placement for next year. With this in mind, we then learned about content for the digital world.

What is content?

Content is anything that you can see on the front end of a website. This includes colours, text, images, video etc. When designing content, it is more important to consider what the user needs before thinking about what the user wants.

The two main types of content are push and pull.

Push content – putting your brand in front of your audience. This can be done through ads and promotions.

Pull content – pulling people to your brand through intrigue and interest. This can be done through interesting, visually pleasing content.

Content Discovery

How to determine the content you will design:

  • Look at other designers/practitioners in your field
  • Determine audience wants and needs (demographics/psychographics)
  • Search data
  • Understanding audience vocabulary
  • (For website) Show who you are, what you do, your specialisation, your process, how to contact
