Introduction to ZBrush

We were encouraged to get used to Zbrush over the Summer months, and as a 3D newbie still I had no idea what I was getting into past some mentions of this sculpting software from research throughout my first year.

To get started I decided to go ahead and watch a couple ‘Beginner Guide’ type tutorials to break down the intimidating layout. The best tutorials by far come from Flipped Normals in my opinion, and I appreciated the sentiment of less is more, sculpt when you can and have fun with it. I was also able to understand poly painting and how to work with this for models (albeit quite shallow knowledge of both sculpting and painting).

I then went ahead and wanted to figure out how to export my model as a PNG, using the lighting built-in to Zbrush so I watch the video below and was able to colour correct and add some lighting to another sculpt I did of Moira from Overwatch. One thing I noted that I will have to practice is hair, at the time of sculpting I was confident in it, and I didn’t find the appropriate hair references to try remake her hair so I left it off.
