This week we had to present our groups idea to our peers.
Making a Title and Naming Our Short Film
In order to do a pitch presentation, I thought it was important to have at least a working title, so I started a discussion with Tori and Eoin and we started to come up with ideas. We generated a fair amount before landing on Dicey Dungeon. I really like this name because not only does it related our dungeon theme to DnD in a subtle way ( you wouldn’t understand the connection until the end of the film, then you can make the connection), it also has a nice ring to it.
With a name decided on for now, I went ahead and worked on drawing it out for us. This was something we could change later on, but I thought it would be nice to have in our presentation to set the tone of the piece and see how our peers responded to it. I went and collected some titles I liked and used those to help design our own.
I sent these designs to my group to see what they liked most, before I continued with adding colour or needed to change designs.
Taking what my group said I went ahead and started finishing them, before sending them in for feedback again.
Pitch Presentation and Feedback
Tori found a nice template for us to work on and some nice font that fit our theme, and we all helped to put in our designs and discussed our style inspirations and made what I think is a very nice and concise presentation. We put each of our storyboards as well, and I think it is quite interesting to see how we all interpreted the story into different framing and blocking.
Then once we were done the presentation, we received some feedback from Henry, Alec and Mike. They provided some very helpful critiques and gave us a new starting point of where we could be more cohesive and where we didn’t notice some fault, I noted these down to our group.
With these notes in mind we all got straight to discussing some elements of our film:
To help people organise our new designs I thought it would be good to make people have different ideas and then we could pick ones out that we thought looked nice. Eoin showed us where to find equipment and other related things so that we could find reference easier and that it would be more in line with our idea.
We got a lot of good critique and a lot of understanding of what we can be working on together to have a more understood and impactful story. I was very nervous going into this but I can now see how presenting our idea helps you to pinpoint certain aspects you hadn’t thought of and get feedback on what does or doesn’t work. I am somewhat looking forward to seeing the other group’s progress and to get more feedback as well all progress through the task, I am having a lot of fun working on this task!
