I was a bit nervous to start this assignment but I found myself really enjoying the process of making my little statue. I did find it hard to fit with the style of Genndy Tartakovski, this style of cartoony, expressive characters was really out of my comfort zone but I am happy we had so much creative freedom and I think I was able to create something akin to his characters. There was a lot of new techniques and a new pipeline to learn, but I actually found myself looking forward to learning each new step and seeing my model come together. I believe I was able to take the critiques of my last assignment to improve my work through the end of the semester and I did a lot of research to help me through designing and making my model. I am not entirely happy with the final result, I still struggle with accepting that I can’t just make professional quality models immediately, I know that there’s a handful of problems with this model, some of my textures didn’t lay well and the UVs could be improved. Even with this, I still had a lot of fun. I never would have thought I could have made something like this a couple months ago, or that I would’ve enjoyed this area of animation so much, I can’t wait to practice more and improve my skills in sculpting, retopology and beyond.
Over the next year I hope to collect 3D artists to take inspiration from and start to develop my own style in this branch of art.
