Textile Artist – Joanna Kinnersly-Taylor

Joanna Kinnersly-Taylor is a textile artist who trained at the University College of Creative Arts in Farnham then as a post graduate at the Glasgow School of Art. She set up a studio in 1989 then moved to Glasgow in 1994 and is based there still. When working her favourite materials she likes to use is linen and wool. Her art has been featured in books and magazines such as Never lazy, Summer 2012, Elle Decoration, January 2004, Healthcare Arts 1995 etc. She also is a member of the 62 Group of Textile Artists since 1997 and is the author of Dyeing and Screen-Printing.

Fashion Designer – Karl Lagerfeld

Karl Lagerfeld was a German fashion designer who passed away last year at the age of 85. He had entered and won a coat design competition sponsored by the international wool secretariat in 1955 and was hired by Pierre Balmain as an assistant for three years. He then became the artistic director for Jean patou in 1958 then hired by a fashion house called Fendi 9 years later. After Karl had gained fame and helped revive the almost dead company Chanel, he was able to start his own business “Karl Lagerfeld” and he planned to try and channel “intellectual sexiness” with it.

Textile Designer – Ernest Race

Ernest Race was a British Textile Designer who passed away in 1964 at the age of 50. He used recycled materials to create different furniture. He started designing furniture around after WW2 had ended, he started designing after answering an advertisement from an engineer named J.W. Noel Jordan, together they made the company Ernest Race Limited which was then renamed to Race Furniture. One of his first pieces is called the BA3, a chair he made back in 1946 that is on display at the Victoria and Albert Museum. The chair was made out of scrap aluminium taken from redundant Aircrafts. This was received well and one of their first orders was for 1,500 chairs and tables for troop ships.
