Alt means – Protest art & design work

On the second half of the second day of alt means, we were asked to find a piece of protest art and a piece of protest design and write a short paragraph about why we thought they were effective.

Below are the pieces of art and design I chose along with what I wrote about them:

I think this piece of protest design towards abortion laws works as it clearly states what it needs to say as well as presenting the rejection of the laws well. I think the layout of the words in the shape of a woman’s body works well along with the hands being interpreted as the hands of the law reaching towards the body, as if they have every right to touch or have a say in what happens to a woman’s body.

I think this piece of protest art against war by Jörn Peper works well as it clearly depicts the want for fake guns firing pretty roses as opposed to real guns firing bullets in war. I think that the fact that it’s three different types of guns, that are probably used by different countries, are being held up represents the want for the world to be united in that peace and for everyone to reject war.

I initially thought I had done well with the task at hand but once I saw how my peers had done later on, I realised I hadn’t written all that much and was lacking in detail by comparison.

In the future, when it comes to the writing aspect of an assessment, I will make sure to write more and include more detail on what I’m writing about as to make sure I cover everything I need to and to ensure I’m not writing significantly less like I had in this task.
