Faye Arguelles – Textile Designer
Originally from The Philippines, Faye Arguelles is now London based where she designs her unique work. Arguelles has always been focused on details and refinement with her own and many other designers work. She takes this appreciation of details from her love of nature and natural forms therefore the natural details seen in the world around us. All of her work is hand-rendered with a delicate look to each. Arguelles focuses on sustainability with her work as well as traditions and indigenous practices in order to keep their existence alive due to the lack of knowledge of these practices in the Western world. She combines this with her practices of modern textiles to show her unique and delicate work. Much of her work stems from her Filipino roots where she combines the heritage lands such as rice terraces with more urban areas like mining sites. I love Arguelles work due to the message and history that is laced through it. She takes care in all of her pieces and truly explores her textiles when working.
Alexandra Kehayoglou – Textile Artist
Alexandra Kehayoglou is a textile artist from and based in Buenos Aires. She combines textiles with sculpture and installation to create her unique pieces which show beautiful landscapes. Her art is created with surplus materials and weaving. The process that she uses is long and very precise which gives the incredible detail to her art although the process is very difficult physically. Kehayoglou has explained how each of her works is based on her own memories of her travels through her life. She uses her art to preserve the memory for herself in her own unique way. The unique texture that is given to each of her pieces as well as unique palettes and weaving makes each piece personal for Kehayoglou and ensures that it cannot be repeated. She has said how each piece of work is “created from an ancient family tradition that nonetheless gives a new meaning to the craft of weaving by hand.” I love the individuality that each of her pieces shows and the personal touch that Kehayoglou adds.
