Asya Kozina
Asya Kozina is a contemporary sculptor from the Ukraine. Kozinas most famous work is her creations of historical wigs made solely out of white paper. Kozina focuses on the possibilities of what u can create from simple white paper. While using it as a tool, she also uses it as a way to explore and express symbolic fashion through the historical processes. All of Kozina’s pieces show different forms of historical expression including African, Venetian, Scythian, Mongolian, Baroque and Art Nouveau cultures. Each piece is recognisable and metaphorical showing their traditional and historical contexts yet still showing the uniqueness of her work that is achieved through making everything by hand and avoiding modern technology. The use of white paper allows Kozina to conceal secondary details and focus on the beauty of her creations. The simplicity of white paper contrasts with the incredible details that are included in each and every piece that is created. This draws us into her work and allows us to see the beauty behind it all. The simple white paper gives her word a clean look that is complimented by her models and the context surrounding the work.
Geraldine Gonzalez
Geraldine Gonzalez is a French sculptor that started off as a shoe stylist. She now focuses on home and window settings made out of various materials. Gonzalez uses media such as papier maché, crushed glass, pearls, fabric, crystal paper (which allows her to play with light and transparency in her pieces) and different forms of crystal. Each piece that Gonzalez has created is designed and created by hand in there own unique and creative ways. She has focused on a wide range of themes such as animals in creating a series of jellyfish and a peacock out of papier machines. She has also created some pieces that look like dresses and shoes which relate back to her background of shoe design. Gonzalez has found herself collaborating with many other artists such as Christan Lacroix, Sonia Rykiel and Chantal Thomass. Her work can also be found in places such as Channel and Bon Marché. With the materials that Gonzales has chosen, she creates elegant and delicate designs which play with light and dark due to the transparency of her materials and show her creativity in a non typical way. The wide range of themes and materials allow her audience to be surprised by each piece, not know what to expect next from her work.
David Trubridge
David Trubridge is a sculptor focusing on lighting, jewellery and furniture based in Whakatu, New Zealand. Trubridge is inspired by natures patterns and formations. Due to his deep love and connection with nature, many of Trubridges pieces are focused and inspired by it. He found his love for nature when he was a forester and a furniture maker. He taught himself how to create furniture and wanted to continue to explore his creativity through his sculptures. His main goal is to be as environmentally friendly as possible while creating his work. Trubridge has said “Works within the limits of what have and know, simplicity and low impact, natural materials and processes, leaving a delicate footprint.” All of his work is created and designed with longevity and integrity in mind. Much of his work is simply designed but very bold and effective in their purpose. He uses both light and dark to create a simple design but also show his message of having a low carbon footprint and creating effect pieces.
