Thoughts on Innovation

After listening to David Houle’s Ted talk video on the convergence of art, design and technology, I have been left with lots to consider.

First and foremost, the idea that art and design is the centre of innovation and the centre of the problem of climate change really struck me. I had never thought of it in that way at all, Houle said that we need to redesign our consumerist world, our transport, our lives essentially in order to preserve the one world we have. This is an innovative way of thinking in itself but through talking of how art, design and technology have converged and how that was through constant innovation and new ideas and shifts in culture etc I see now that design and innovation are very closely linked and without one the other cannot be. I also understand that innovation is the key to progress and enhancing our way of life and living and bettering the world around us. As Houle said, we are crew mates on this spaceship earth, there are no passengers. That thought really resonated with me and it really does change your way of thinking. From listening to that talk I’ve learned so much more about the concept of innovation as a whole and how important and widespread it really is.

Additionally, here is a link to an article that really got me thinking even more about the word innovation and just how much it affects the world around us and our lives and how much of an integral part of human life it really is.

While all the articles I read are quite tedious in that they are of a more business perspective, it still goes to show how much importance is placed upon innovation as a whole.
