Creating your Video

As part of your assessment, you may be asked to create:

  • a screen cast
  • camera footage
  • a video presentation (screen + video)

For each of these assets, there are many tools you can use. The Panopto Capture recorder is probably the easiest tool to use because you can choose if you want to record your screen, or your web camera, or both at the same time, and it uploads the video to your Panopto account automatically.

After following the instructions in the Overview section and select Launch Capture. This will start the web recording, allowing you to recording without any need additional software.

Select the microphone (Audio icon), camera (Video icon) and screen or app you want to record (Screens and Apps icon):

In the Screens and Apps tab, to record your screen as well as your voice and camera, we recommend we choose Entire Screen:

  • Selecting Entire Screen means that Panopto records exactly what you see on your screen.
  • Click the red button to start recording. A 5-second countdown will give you time to switch to the app you want to record.
  • If you are recording your screen, this is the time to switch to the content you want to present, such as Powerpoint for example.

    • Finish and Submit the video

    Once you are finished presenting, switch back to the Panopto window, and click the red button again to stop the recording.

    The video is automatically uploaded to your personal Panopto account’s page. While it’s uploading, you can also change some of the settings, such as the title, the folder where the video will be stored and more:

    Clicking the Edit button will take you to the video’s Panopto page. There, you will be able to edit the video before submitting it, should you wish to do so.

    Once the video is uploaded, you can safely close the window and find it in the folder where you clicked the Create button, unless you have changed the destination folder.

    To submit the video, select the Choose tab. If this is the first video you have recorded, it will dispay as below. If you have recorded videos previously, these will be listed in chronological order.

    To submit your video, select it by clicking the radio button then click Insert

    Change the name of video if you so wich and click Insert

    Finally, click Submit, confirm by clicking Submit in the pop-up.

    If your submission is successful, the folowing dialog will pop-up. We recommend you download your submission reciept.
