Reflection: Animated Narrative Module and First Year
Module Conclusion and Reflection –
Although this year has been quite challenging due to Covid-19 in terms of learning and classes, overall, I think this year has been very eye-opening and somewhat a positive experience.
This module has taught me a considerable amount since I have started, and I think I have improved a lot since beginning first year Animation. I have learned a lot about the effort it takes to both create animations and to work in a team, and now believe I can be prepared to work from home or with others abroad should the need arise in the future.
The current module definitely challenged me, as someone who is more comfortable drawing and animating in 2D, to think and work differently. I believe my skills using Maya and Substance Painter have been a shocking improvement since the start of the semester and I would not have expected to be this much improved at using the programs.
I believe the lecturers and staff definitely did their best at maintaining quality lessons and help for students. Lecturers would take time outside of the normal 9-5 working hours to help and give advice if we were struggling, as well as make tutorials specifically for myself and my group members.
My first year on the animation course has been difficult due to current circumstances, and probably would have been a much better experience should things have been different, however I still thoroughly enjoyed being on the course and learning so much more than I expected. I hope that by the next semester or next year, I will be able to study my second year of the course on the university grounds, and expect it to be just as enjoyable as this year has been.
