Week 6 & 7 – Body Mechanics Animation

Week 6:

During week 6, we had one on one talks with our tutors on how we were getting on in the course. I got to speak to Daryll from the Games Design course who offered to get me a new PC from the university if I ran into trouble by not being able to complete any work that was unfinished from uni at home.

Week 7:

For week 7 we had to watch a series of pre-recorded videos given to us by Alec in order to prepare us for Body Mechanics Animation.

Alec’s videos reminded us how to go about translating what key poses we wanted for our characters’ body mechanics and posing them in Maya then setting keyframes. We used the following video as a reference of a person jumping and then could use it as reference for practice animating.

Jump Reference 59.94fps

We were also told to watch Keith Lango’s animation tutorial series on YouTube to further help us in animating body mechanics:

VTS42: Animating a Scene, Part 1

Sorcha McGlinchey’s After Effects Workshop:

For our morning class, we had a lecture and exercise in 2D animation using After Effects with Sorcha McGlinchey.

I was very happy with the result of this animation as my first animation created using After Effects.

Introduction to Assignment 2 – Animation – Thursday 7th January – 50%

Alec’s Class workshop:

In the afternoon, we had class with Alec where he introduced us to our second assignment this year.

For this assignment, we have to animate in 2D or 3D a Walk Cycle, a Run Cycle and a Body Mechanics animation (a physical expression of motion). This assignment will help to practice and enhance our methods of biped animation.
