WEEK 5 – SKETCHFAB – ANIMATION & 3D PREVIS
3D Digital Literacy:
In class we, learnt how to import our Hard Surface model and PBR textures from Substance Painter to Sketchfab. We also were shown how to add change the settings and lighting on the model on Sketchfab. Alec also talked us through importing materials and textures from Substance Painter onto Sketchfab, and how to keep the effects of materials such as metallic objects when exporting them.
We further looked at taking a model and textures from Maya into Sketchfab and using it’s real-time rendering features to create presentable models for review and submissions. I found this very useful for when I am going to be uploading my staff model up onto Sketchfab and now understand how to keep the texturing and effects looking how I want.
Animated Narratives:
We started the class watching each other’s presentations pitching the final short animation each group will be making. Our presentation turned out well and I think we told our story and concept ideas for the short animation really effectively! Our group had created a lot of character concepts, and we could have focused a little less on that after we had decided on the definite main character, however we also did a good amount of prop and scene setting concept art as well as storyboards!
After lunch, Alec posted tutorial videos we could watch and follow where we learnt how to animate a Green Blob jumping along with sound.
Unfortunately, though, my sound didn’t download until the end of class so when I put my fished animation with it, the timing was off. I hope to later fix the animation so the sound can line up with the landing.
We were then given the further task to animate some simple models to a clip from Jurassic Park in order to further practice 3D animating to sound over the weekend. These lectures really helped me understand how to go about animating 3D models and I now understand how this will work and how I can apply this to my final group animation.
