Problems Encountered

During the production stage of our animation we came across some problems that set us back, one of those was the 2d faces. The chip rig in particular was difficult as it had squash and stretch so  when we would squash the chip the image plane with all of the faces on it would phase into the mesh and when we would stretch the chip the image plane would be far away from the mesh. In the end we were unable to find a solution and we were forced to take off the squash and stretch and instead animate the chip as if it had knees. Another issue that we encounter was that even with packed resources the face images in the image planes wouldn’t come over in the files, this resulted in everyone having to manually insert the images in. We also had some problems with the line art on certain objects, some objects would just reject the grease pencil line art as soon as you click off of the mesh and slide along the timeline. this only really affected one member of out team however and his solution was to render his scene out in smaller clips and throw it together in post production.

My Animation

I decided that it would be easier to split my animation into different parts and do each part in a separate file from one another. This is my fist scene in which the chip is emerging from the potato sack. originally I was planning on doing this with a lattice modifier, however, when I tested this it would work for the first half and then the chip would just phase through the potato sack. my solution was to make a quick armature so that I could control each corner of the sack.

This is the next scene that I got to animate, in this scene the chip is reacting to his environment after emerging from the bag. I decided to increase the focal length of the cameras and have a close up shot of the chip to show the expression in the chips face better.

In my next scene I animated the chip running over to the fish, the first camera angle is pointed at the chip showing his facial expressions go from happy after finding the fish to sad after realising why the fish was there. my aim was to show as much emotion as I could as my scenes close to the start and we want the audience to feel as connected to the characters as possible as early on as possible. this is also the scene in which we see the fish flop around in excitement after seeing the chip for the first time.

This was my last scene that I got to animate, in this scene we see the chef chopping the fish on the other side of the food truck. The camera the cuts to showing the fish the chef has just cut fall in two.
