For this assignment, I was tasked with creating some character concepts. While I could have only created one character and put them in different poses, I ended up creating many different characters and I also used different styles like 2.D. and 3.D. so that me and my team have more flexibility if we decide to change the style somewhere in the future. These characters are in an alien environment which is why they are dressed in suits and bio-hazard gear.
The image above was the first I had created, I used a very simple, stick-figure-like design as this characters foundation. And I as I added more mass to this character, I also added more detail until I ended up with the final image below:
This character is a head research scientist and is one of the bad guys in my teams story. Their job is to explore the surrounding area and capture any creatures they come into contact with. Their yellow and black colour designs remind me of a wasp and how they invade the areas around them which is why he is dressed in a yellow and black bio suit, to not only survive the harsh environment, but to look intimidating to anything living in said environment.
Again, I used the method of starting off simple and then add more detail as I go along.
This is the second character I had created and they are one of the good guy’s. Dressed in purple and silver to look almost alien, these researchers decided that they should preserve the wild life they are studying, not experiment with it. And so they created these purple bio suits to allow them to fit in with the surrounding alien environment, plus they have an extra pair of mechanical arms to further camouflage their human form when in the wild.
This is another bad guy, this guy act’s as a guard for the evil scientists. They are equipped to deal with threats, be it alien or human and due to their training, they very rarely, if at all hesitate.
A pixel version of the head researcher. With less detail on the body than the line art version, but this version makes up for it by having a visible weapon being held in their left hand which is a sign with a radioactive hazard symbol on it.
A pixel version of the guard, vastly different from its line art counterpart, this character has a fully armoured face visor, helmet and bullet proof vest. Under all the armour this guard wears a black suit with a yellow tie and holds a large rifle. But just like its line art counterpart, these guards will also very rarely hesitate.
