In this assignment, I have been tasked with creating point perspectives from games, animations or T.V.show’s, to create three character concept’s for the team I am with at the time this post was created and to come up with a story board  idea for that team. Let’s start with the point perspective exercise, the following images have been taken from the game’s listed below:

  1. – Bio-shock.
  2.  – Prey.
  3.  – Mirror’s Edge.

1 . – Bio-shock:

I liked the way Bio-shock used the point perspective method in it’s environments. The way they used them made the environments look grande and proud looking while also capturing that 1930’s aesthetic. In the image above you can see that the point perspective is from a top down view. Meaning that if a person were to look at this image the same way the camera looks at it, then the person would be standing close to the door in the middle and look up.

2 . – Prey:

The way Prey used point perspective is interesting. The lines in the photo above are simple and mostly parallel but they have been used in a way where everything looks sleek and futuristic. I like designs and concepts like this as they can create such immersive and well laid out environments while only using a few perspective lines.

3 . – Mirror’s Edge:

Like the previous image, Mirror’s edge has used a format of point perspective where it has a minimalist and simplistic design. This is another top down view as the camera is looking upwards. And like the first image, this design has also been created in a way to make the background buildings look grande and proud looking but only this time the lines are much closer together, creating a kind of claustrophobic yet futuristic feel to the buildings in the background as they have all been packed together really tightly but all have perfect lines, creating a kind of dystopian feel using only a few simple lines in a point perspective drawing.

Now that we have covered the point perspective part of this assignment, lets move on to the work I did for my team, starting with the three character concepts I have created. These characters are going into a world dominated by plants which is why they themselves look like plants. The characters sizes are quite small, the tallest of the plant people being only 40 cm.

The image above was the first concept I had created, I used an image of a certain type of Venus Fly Trap as a reference for my characters body. I then added elements like eyes and tuxedo buttons and leaf arms to give the character some definition. Finally I gave the character some colour to show that they are a fairly relaxed character as they are not dressed in an aggressive colour like red or a powerful colour like Atlantic blue or black.

This is the second character I had created. Again I used another reference image of a plant for the characters body. After that was done I added legs and large antennae to give the character a kind of mysterious/intimidating look. I then refined the characters back by adding lines that make the character look like it has armour plates on it’s back. I was going to add give this character a weapon but decided against it as that would be too generic, giving a large creature with lots of armour a weapon, so I replaced the idea of a weapon with a lantern, and that this character would be seen a leader or guider to those around them as they are quite tall and can illuminate a good amount of space around them and in front of them to help others see where they are going. Plus giving this character a lantern would be far easier to animate if we did use this art in the final concept.

This character is a bit different to the others as they have fallen into a special type of portal which transforms their plant like body into a candle like one. For this character I found an image of a strange looking plant, used it as reference to create the body and modified the top part of the plant into a flame.

Finally, I created a story board for my team, the description of the story and the breakdown of what is happening in each picture can be found below the picture:

The first four pictures (Top row, left to right.) show a book on an alter. The camera zooms in on the book, then a robot arm shows up and grabs the book, Once the book goes off screen the alter and the room the alter is in begin to degrade and crumble. The second four pictures (Middle row, left to right.) cut to a view of a planet in space. After the book was removed, two large beams of light protrude out of the planets surface and into the void of space. After the light disappears the planet splits in two. The camera then cuts to a small solar system where four other planets have light beaming off then before they too all break into pieces. The last four pictures (Bottom row, left to right.) show five pieces of random plants coming together. These pieces eventually settle and create a crude looking planet with a faint orbit and large cracks on the surface as none of the pieces fitted together perfectly but are very close to one another. The camera then cuts to a silhouette standing in an open field, staring at the night sky and a shattered moon. They pull up a communications device which tells them to find who is responsible for shattering the universe.
