Week 12 – Presentation and fixes

This week we made to present our work and our progress so far in our scene. Below is my one.

From watching this, my tutors were able to give me lots of constructive criticism which was incredibly useful.  For the rest of the week I worked on fixing the issues in my work.

Fixes

Below is the list of criticisms my tutors gave me and what I fixed:

  • Remove cover from mushroom houses
  • More variation in grass and flower scale
  • More types of grass – Keep it low poly
  • Make the large rocks rougher
  • Add colour variation to the mushroom houses
  • Make the ground rougher

 

Most of these issues were easy to fix, I simply redid the foliage with more scale variation, changed some textures on models and deleted the covers on the mushroom houses. One that took a bit longer was making more types of grass. To do this I used alpha maps again like I did with the tree leaves. I used this png image I found online for the grass texture.

Once I made a 2D plane and applied this texture to it in Maya, I took it into Unreal and used it as foliage for the grass on the hills by the trees. I continued to use the higher poly grass for around the tree and in close up shots.
