Texturing
This week I completed my model through finally texturing it and uploading it to Sketchfab. In Substance painter I added various materials and paint layers to create the perfect look for each part of the model. I already had a good idea for what I wanted it all to look like so this process did not take me long. I first did the main body. I used a smart material for the base black colour and then create a paint layer and added the white to the belly and face. I used the symmetry tool to get it even on each side.
Next I did the feet and nose. I used the same smart material for both of them, a matt plastic look and coloured them bright orange. Although I would have liked them to be a brighter orange.
Then I did the glasses which, again, were fairly easy. I chose an iron like material from them and coloured them red. I feel they stand out really well on his face and the brushed metal look works excellent.
The eyes are a simple glossy plastic material as I wanted the light the reflect off them a bit. I added a white highlight in the corners as I wanted to keep that cartoon style look and I made sure to make them extra metallic so they were very reflective.
Finally I did the hat. This bit took me the longest as I wasn’t fully sure on what materials looked best and what type of fabric I wanted. After some time of looking at different ones I settled on this one. I did use a smart material but I changed a lot of the properties to make it look more white and less creases in it. I also changed the size of the fabric pattern as originally it was too big.
Sketchfab
After finishing texturising the model in Substance painter I was able to upload it and the texture maps onto Sketchfab. There I finished the model by fixing the lighting and effects on the model to what suit it best. Below is the link to my model.
