UV mapping
This week after finally finishing modelling my tree I UV mapped it. At first I wasn’t sure of the best way to do this but after speaking with my tutor he told me I could use Udims as a way to UV map my model, allowing me to have higher texture resolutions for certain parts of my tree. Below shows how I did this.
Texturing
Next I went into Substance painter and textured my model. I used a smart material as a base layer for the tree to get the bark effect and base colour. I then painted on moss of various colours. I took me a while but eventually I got the right colours for the moss. I wanted to keep a realistic look but also give some sort of fairy feel. Below shows my textured tree.
My next step is to test how my tree looks in Unreal.
