Week 4 – Adding detail to tree

This week I continued working on my tree by adding more branches and taking it into blender to add finer detail to it. I was able to smooth the branches and roots and create creases in the main trunk to make it look more like a willow tree. Below is the new version of my tree and the reference image I used for the trunk.

After adding detail in Blender I went back to Maya where I found the tree wasn’t looking as smooth as it did in Blender. To fix this I simply used the smooth edges option.

I felt the branches and roots where too smooth now so I changed them back to normal but kept the trunk smoothed. My next step was to add smaller separate branches to hang the leaves from. To do this I used the sweep mesh tool.

 

Now I have to find a way to add leaves to the tree. I will ask my tutor how this could be best achieved.
