Background Models
This week after finishing my assignment 2 I began focusing again on my group project. After sorting out the animatic and character designs we have now began making the 3D models for the animation. I was tasked with making the background clouds. Before I began I realised that I could create 3 models and reuse them by resizing and rotating them to make them look different, allowing me to populate the scene easier. Below are the models.
2D Background plain
Even though I will have 3D models in my scene I will also need a general background behind them to look like the sky. The easiest way for me to do this was to create a plain in Maya and place an image onto it. So I began working on the 2D background in Photoshop where I created multiple ones and compared them to see which fit best. I wanted the backdrop to have a plain look to it so the attention was focused on the 3D elements in the scene however I did experiment in one where I drew some clouds in the corners. I mainly tried different shades of blue but also tried ones with shades of orange and pink in them. Below are the possible choices I created.
In the end I chose this bottom one as I felt the colour gradient looked just right.
After creating the backdrop and the models I then put them into a Maya scene and animated them to see how they would look.
